Guess Nigeria has a new president.Congrats to Gen. Buhari
Atiku Abubakar congratulates Gen. Buhari on his victory
My hearty congratulations to His Excellency,General Muhammadu Buhari, for being elected the next president of our beloved county, Nigeria.
You have led our party, the All Progressives Congress to an unprecedented victory within two years of it’s official formation, and in so doing, written the most important chapter of our democracy.
The great Nnamdi Azikiwe once wrote that “history will continue to vindicate the just”. Your victory in the polls, with votes from across the length and breadth of our
country, bears witness to the acceptance of not just our party, the APC, but also your ideology of justice, fair play and zero tolerance for corruption as the bedrock for
national rebirth.
At this historic moment, it is most important to say a hearty thank you to every Nigerian who voted for the APC. Your
votes have not just elected the first opposition party into federal power, but has also set a precedent which will have positive implications for democracy across Africa.
Dear GMB, the journey has just begun. Millions of Nigerians have put their trust in you, because they were not satisfied
with the status quo. You represent the hope of a new generation of Nigerians, and you cannot afford to fail them.
Our party has made a promise of change to our young people, to secure and rebuild our country, create jobs and opportunity, and improve citizens’ welfare. We will stand
behind you to ensure we keep those promises, just like we did during these elections.
Our country needs a new direction. We have voted for you,and our party won the election, but when you assume our highest office, you must become the president of not just the APC, but all of Nigeria, including the people who did not vote for you. We look up to you to heal the fractures of our country, and truly unite this country like never before.
To President Jonathan, I want to specially thank you for conducting a historic election. Your party may have lost the elections, but you have won the admiration of the world by not interfering with the wishes of Nigerians. History will be kind to you.
It is my sincere hope that we will all come together as one country, to build the Nigeria of our dreams.God bless Nigeria.
Buhari thanks Nigerians, calls for sober reflection
The presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress in the 2015 election, Maj. Gen. Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), has expressed gratitude to Nigerians for voting him and his party to steer the ship of state for the next four years.
Buhari said this in an interim message of thanks and gratitude to Nigerians in Abuja on Tuesday.
This was contained in a statement by the Director of Media and Publicity of the APC Presidential Campaign Organisation, Malam Garba Shehu.
In the message, Buhari thanked Nigerians “for choosing him and his party over and above the PDP and their candidate, the incumbent President, Dr Jonathan Goodluck.”
The APC statement said it “Declared victory after Dr. Jonathan called General Buhari at 5.15pm to make a concession and congratulate the winner.
Shehu quoted Buhari as saying the mood of the country as well as its current state, did not warrant the type of wild celebrations reportedly going on in some cities across the country.
“Buhari said anybody happy with the victory of the APC in the presidential election will not be involved in the molestation of opponents or the destruction of their property.
“He or she is not with me, whoever does that,” Buhari curtly said.
He is expected to make a major acceptance speech as soon as the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission declares the final results in which Buhari is expected to be declared winner.
Jonathan concede defeat congratulate Buhari
There are indications that President Goodluck Jonathan may soon concede defeat.
Some ministers and presidential aides have been trooping in to the Presidential Villa to consult with him since it became clear that the election has been won and lost.
Our correspondent gathered that some chieftains of the Peoples Democratic Party will be meeting with the President by 6pm.
At the end of the meeting, the PDP is expected to issue a statement on the election and the result while the Presidency will issue a separate statement.
While the PDP might announce its decision to contest the election result in court, Jonathan may concede defeat and congratulate maj. Gen. Muhammadu Buhari (retd.).
The PDP chiefs, led by the national chairman, Alhaji Adamu Muazu, have started arriving for the meeting.

PDP official disrupts INEC result announcement, says Jega is partial and has been compromised
The PDP party agent at the Collation center in Abuja, Elder Godswill Orubebe is currently staging a protest at the INEC
result collation center alleging that Prof Jega has been compromised. According to him, Professor Jega has been selective, partial and is tribalistic.
He said APC had written a letter to INEC concerning an alleged rigging in Rivers
state which he immediately sent a committee to investigate the issue but that when PDP wrote protest letters on the
elections in Katsina, Kaduna and Jigawa, Jega did not send anyone to attend to their protest.Orubebe, who is a former Minister of Niger Delta, is now calling for Jega to stop result collation. He sat on stage and refused to allow the result announcement to continue...
I don’t shake ladies’ hands —RSUST best graduate
Ogun State-born Ajumobi Falola leads the pack at the convocation of the Rivers State University of Science and Technology, CHUKWUDI AKASIKE reports
FOR 24-year-old Ajumobi Yusuf Falola, gaining admission to the university was not an easy task and this perhaps explains why he sat for the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination organised by the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board twice. However, Falola’s two attempts before securing admission did not discourage him from graduating with a First Class from the Rivers State University of Science and Technology.
At the RSUST’s 27th convocation, Falola shone like a star as he won three awards, including the overall best student prize. For Falola, who studied Petroleum Engineering, the academic accomplishment did not just come on a platter. He encountered difficult times, especially challenges bordering on finance as well as other socio-economic difficulties.
Most discouraging of the challenges, he said, was not his modest background but the financial difficulties he encountered on his way to academic stardom. Born to a transporter father and a divorcee Mushin trader mother, the youngster explained that what his parents offered him as pocket money was nothing to discuss in the open.
Though his parents were sending money to him for his education and upkeep, what they sent across most times, he insisted, was not enough to cater to his needs.
However, what the smart Falola lacked in terms of deep pockets, he found in brilliance and social life. In fact, his brilliance attracted some of his rich student-colleagues, who were providing him with financial assistance.
But that did not come without a prize, as he occasionally devoted a good quality of his time to giving them extra tutorials on campus. The attribute, he said, drew the empathy of some of the students, particularly those in his department to assist him financially.
Besides, Falola noted that the drive to lift his family out of poverty also propelled him to face his studies seriously. Little wonder, with a Cumulative Grade Point Average of 4.82, he walked tall to the podium and addressed the crowd that converged on the auditorium of the university.
He said, “I can’t even say that my family is an average family. But I have just been able to manage the little resources and financial assistance from some of my colleagues in the university. I thank them because they really tried a lot. Whenever I was in need of money, some of them assisted me.
“My parents are not rich, but I managed what they gave to me and with the books available in the library, I was able to be concentrate on my studies. My dad is a transporter, while my mum is a trader in Mushin, Lagos,” an elated Falola said as he stole the show.
But even as he received accolades from the audience, the valedictorian gave the greater glory to God. According to him, God made everything possible for him, crowning all his efforts with success.
But where there hurdles on his way to success. To this, he said yes, acknowledging that there were little distractions from the opposite sex. He nonetheless, explained that his determination and religion worked for him to ward off any form of temptation.
He noted, “There is no way students of the opposite sex would not have passed glances at me. But I am a very religious person; I don’t shake hands with ladies and right from time, they know me for that. So, the only thing is that we greet from a distance. That does not mean that we do not crack jokes because that has made them to know me.
“My achievement was made possible through the assistance of the God and dedication to my studies. I was able to manage the time because there were many activities in the university and for you to be a graduate and a responsible Nigerian; you have to participate in many activities. This will afford you the opportunity to be well acquainted to the society. In the university, your social and academic activities are important. So, being able to manage your time is very important. As I said earlier, I prayed to the God for assistance.
“My first year was really a challenging one because we had two academic calendars rolled into one session. Having to go through something repeatedly; though it was also helpful in the sense that for courses that appeared to be difficult, we had time to really tackle them and understand them. After my year one, I emerged the best engineering student and I got the Vice Chancellor’s award. Since then, I have tried not to allow anything to distract me from my studies. I am happy today because the CGPA I had then was not as high as the one I am graduating with.”
On whether he was at any time frustrated by his lecturers, who might want to demand money to increase in his scores, Falola stated that he never faced such a challenge, maintaining that most times, students lied against the lecturers.
According to him, with humility and good behaviour, no lecturer will have the moral fibre to approach a serious-minded student for money to increase his (student) marks.
He advised students not to be discouraged if they come from a poor background, assuring that God was always available to help any serious student. According to him, paying lecturers for marks was not necessary because dedication to studies was enough to give a student the deserved marks.
He said, “Before I entered the department, I heard many things about lecturers. Many say that lecturers victimise students and that if you do not pay money, you are likely to fail their courses. That is a blatant lie. I have never paid any lecturer to add anything to my score. I have never gone to any lecturers’ office to beg for marks. My lecturers are all witnesses to that. Again, no lecturer has gone out of his way to frustrate me.
“I am aware that some students who think they are brilliant like to challenge the lecturers in the presence of their fellow students.”

Melaye floors Smart, wins Kogi West Senatorial seat
The candidate of the All Progressives Congress, Hon. Dino Melaye, was on Monday declared the winner of the Kogi West Senatorial District election held on March 28.
Melaye defeated the candidates of seven other political parties, including the seating senator of the district, Smart Adeyemi, of the Peoples Democratic Party and Aro Bamidele of the Accord Party, who defected from the PDP due to the internal crisis rocking the party in the state.
Returning Officer of the Senatorial District, Mr. Adadi Ameh, in the early hours of Monday declared Melaye the winner at the Independent National Elcectoral Commision’s office in Lokoja Local Government area.
The Lokoja LGA office is the regional office of Kogi West Senatorial District, which comprises seven local governments of Ijumu, Kabba-Bunu, Kogi-Koton Karfe, Lokoja, Mopa Moro, Yagba East and Yagba West.
Melaye polled 41,120 of the total 118, 987 votes cast, while his closest opponent, Adeyemi, polled 38, 148 votes and Aro of Accord had 26,198 votes.
The declaration, which was met with a rapturous applause by Melaye’s supporters, was well received by the agent of the PDP, although with controlled grumblings.
Melaye, who was at the venue of the declaration, told our correspondent that the victory was for the people.
“It is a call to duty and service and I will do my best not to disappoint the people who entrusted their votes in me. The people of Kogi West have made their choice and I promise that they will be given the best of Senatorial representation.”
“I believe I won because I was closer to the grassroots. They had more money than sense and spent it but we spent our brain because we have no money and the people have made their choice,” Melaye said.
