Read President Buhari's Eid el fitr message to Nigerians

Read it below...
I felicitate with all Nigerians, especially the Muslim Ummah, on the occasion of this year’s Eid El Fitr, which marks the completion of the Ramadan fast. I congratulate Muslims in Nigeria and around the world on the successful completion of this month-long spiritual journey of fasting, prayer and almsgiving in obedience to the Divine Command.
I sincerely pray that the Almighty Allah will reward our sacrifices with increased blessing and a more prosperous future.
On this happy occasion, it is my strong belief that all true followers of Islam have been rejuvenated on the true meaning and essence of life and through the teachings of Prophet Muhammad (SAW), we have learnt to imbibe the virtues of piety, sacrifice, love, self-denial and good conduct in our daily relationship with one another.
As we celebrate another Eid El Fitr, I admonish all patriotic Nigerians to uphold these lessons and also appreciate the numerous material and human blessings God has endowed us with.
Let us learn to show gratitude, respect and tolerance to one other, irrespective of our religion, tribe, language and political leanings, as we forge ahead to build on our strengths and opportunities to make Nigeria great again.
On Monday this week, the Vice President, the Speaker of the House of Representatives and other government officials joined me to host Iftar reception at the State House with Nigerians of different backgrounds including Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs), artisans and Physically-challenged persons.
Like I said during the reception, I want to once again appeal to those of us who have the means, to remember the millions of Nigerians who are suffering deprivation because of violence perpetrated by terrorists.
I am not unaware of what Nigerians are going through and I want to use this medium to commend the amazing sacrifices of Nigerians in the face of the temporary economic and social challenges and also reassure Nigerians that my administration is working assiduously towards providing basic needs and other amenities.
Let me also use this opportunity to reaffirm that we will not relent in the fight against corruption and we will ensure that all appropriate and legal measures are deplored to root out this malaise.
I commend the Armed Forces and security agencies for the gains recorded in the fight against terrorists and the rescue of hostages in the North East part of the country.
I also appeal for the support, understanding and patience of all Nigerians and our international partners as we explore the fastest means to end the economic sabotage in the Niger Delta and amicably resolve the conflicts within the region.
I promise you all better days ahead even as we remain grateful for your unflinching support to our administration.
Happy Eid El Fitr celebration and May the Almighty Allah continue to bless our nation.
Eid Mubarak

Jose Mourinho officially unveiled at Man Utd's Old Trafford stadium (photos)

Jose Mourinho was this morning, for the first time, unveiled as the manager of the World's most popular football team Manchester United.
The Portuguese wasted no time in suggesting Man United had lost sight of their stature and says he wants to win the Premier League title.

"It is difficult for me to describe and find the right words for this club. I don't like the denomination that people use like 'dream job'. This is not a dream job, this is reality - I am Manchester United manager. The reality is that this is a job that everyone wants, but not many people get to have, yet I have it," he enthused.
"I know the responsibility, the expectation, the legacy and what is behind me at this club. I know what the fans expect of me and this challenge doesn't make me nervous because my history in the last ten years is to live with big clubs' expectations. I believe it is the right moment in my career, where I feel very well prepared and stable, with a great motivation. I can say that I am where I want to be; I want to be in this club, I want to be in this country, in the Premier League and the domestic cups."
Mourinho also talked about his desire, both from a personal and team perspective, to ensure the Reds get back into the Champions League as soon as possible.
"I am a bit disappointed that I am not in the Champions League, as I do not hide that I chase Sir Alex's records in that competition - the number of matches as a manager. I am around 130 matches, maybe a little bit more or less. Hopefully it will only be one season that we are not there," he added. I say 'we' because the club is much more important than myself. Man United is a Champions League club and we have to make sure that in July 2017, instead of waiting for the Europa League, we are ready for the group draw of the Champions League."

President Buhari urges world bank to ease speedy repatriation of stolen funds

President Buhari has urged the World Bank to do all within its powers to facilitate the speedy repatriation to Nigeria of stolen funds still being held by Swiss authorities.

Speaking at a meeting with the visiting Managing Director of the World Bank, Ms. Sri Mulyani Indrawati, President Buhari said that the repatriation of the additional $320 million in Switzerland, which has been identified as illegally taken from Nigeria under the Abacha administration, will help to ease the current economic hardship facing the country.

Buhari assured Ms Indrawati that his administration was taking appropriate steps to ensure that public funds are no longer stolen or misappropriated by government officials.

‘‘We need the support of the World Bank for the repatriation of the funds. We are as concerned as the World Bank about accountability. If such repatriated funds have been misapplied in the past, I assure you that the same will not happen with us. Three hundred and twenty million dollars is a lot of money and we will not allow it to be misappropriated or diverted,’’ President Buhari told Ms. Indrawati.

One of the conditions given by the Swiss Authorities for the repatriation of the funds is that it should be expended on the implementation of social programmes for the benefit of the Nigerian people in an efficient and accountable way, guaranteed by the monitoring of the World Bank.

Buhari also assured the World Bank Managing Director that his administration will honor all agreements with the Bank that will help to stimulate Nigeria's economy and reduce the level of poverty in the country.
He said that Nigeria will welcome greater international assistance for the rehabilitation of damaged homes, schools, health facilities and other infrastructure in the North Eastern states affected by the Boko Haram insurgency.

Ms. Indrawati told President Buhari that the World Bank was ready to use its knowledge, expertise and resources to help Nigeria achieve faster growth and development.

‘‘We will strongly support you to create jobs and ensure prosperity in Nigeria,’’ the World Bank Managing Director assured President Buhari.
She also expressed the World Bank's full support for the war against corruption being waged by the Buhari Administration.

Femi Fani-Kayode defend what he said about Buhari

Read what he said below...
Everything that I said about President Muhammadu Buhari and his APC during the Presidential campaign has come true.
In less than one year I have been proved right in my continuous assertion that when it comes  to running the affairs of our country President Goodluck Jonathan is by far the better man and the PDP by far the better party.

That is what is paining them and that is what they cannot bear to hear. Now they seek vengeance and they wish to silence me yet I am prepared for the worse.

The only thing that I underestimated was the high degree of malice that our President has for all his political adversaries and critics, the inexplicable pleasure that he derives in inflicting pain on the innocent, the strange delight he harbours in indulging in wickedness and the monemental incompetence he displays when it comes to administering the affairs of our nation.

For him the only one thing that matters is the total annihilation and utter decimation of all his traducers. That and his shameless defence and insidious protection of the murderous Fulani militias and herdsmen.

He is unable to compete on the intellectual plain so, for him, the answer to all things is to unleash his modern-day gestapo on his enemies, with firm orders to fabricate, implicate, break, crush and destroy.

In my world a man is measured not by his ability to kill his subjects, to destroy his political  opponents, to shed the blood of the defenceless, to throw the innocent in dungeons, to humiliate and persecute his adversaries, to abuse his power and to pervert the judicial system but by the level of his humanity and his sense of decency, fairness, justice and restraint.

They wish me ill and I await them without any fear or trepidation because my Redeemer liveth. This is a battle of the gods.

It is a conflict and struggle between the servants of Lucifer and the children of the Lord. He will never abandon me and in the end He will vindicate me and deliver me from their evil claws.

There is nothing I despise more than cowardice and weakness. Those who tremble before the storm are not worthy of being called Christians.

Those who cannot stand up for truth are no better than infidels and unbelievers.

Those who bow and tremble before men and who have no understanding or knowledge of the power of God are not worthy of grace or life.

Those who break ranks and run at the crack of the whip are not worthy of being called men.

The bible says "who art thou O man? Though art as a grass that withers. Though art as a flower that fadeth. A man that is born of woman: that is today and tomorrow is no more".

Man is nothing and each one of us, no matter how highly placed, wise, strong, educated, rich or powerful, must humble ourselves before God. He alone is all-powerful and He alone is the giver and taker of life.

He said "Esau I hate and Jacob I love": some He hates and others He loves. Some He blesses and others He curses. Some He gives life and others He kills: He favours whom He pleases and none can question Him.

No nation, no President, no leader, no government, no party, no institution, no trial, no tribulation, no persecution, no circumstance, no humiliation, no shame, no betrayal and no test is worthy of our fear: God alone is worthy of that.

He alone rules in the affairs of men and forges the destiny of nations. They may destroy your name, shame you before the world, take your liberty and cut short your life but it means absolutely nothing because God is still in control and He alone judges between the oppressor and his helpless prey.

Nothing can happen to any man unless the Lord permits it and when He permits it He always has His purpose.

The Bible says "had the Princes of this world known they would not have crucified the Lord of glory".

They humiliated Him, hung Him on a cross, spat on Him, lied on Him, insulted Him, bore false witness against Him and eventually killed Him, yet He rose again and conquered them all.

There was a purpose to His humiliation and suffering and He fulfilled that purpose: He paid the price for His mission and destiny and indeed for us all.

We are His sons and heirs: if He can endure such tribulations and pain, so can we. As a matter of fact we should count it all as joy.

We should take solace in the fact that
nothing is hidden before God. We should remember that those that seek to persecute, kill and destroy innocent men will eventually suffer the judgement of God.

They, and all that are theirs, will pay a heavy price for the evil that they have done, the innocent souls that they have crushed, the destinies that they have destroyed, the dreams that they have shattered and the innocent blood that they have shed.

No matter what lies ahead we must always remember this: God is great, God is good and there is nothing that He does that is not perfect. Praise the Lord!

FG requires N2trn to complete ongoing road projects - Minister of Works

According to The Minister of Works, Power and Housing, Mr Babatunde Fashola, the Federal Government will require about N2 trillion to complete no new fewer than 226 ongoing road projects across the country.
Fashola made this disclosure in Lagos while speaking at a Town Hall meeting organized to brief the public on the activities of the government in the last 11 months. According to him, the total amount allocated to all the sectors under his ministry in the 2016 budget was less than N500billion and the government does not currently have enough resources to complete all the ongoing projects at present. Hence, some of the projects would be completed rather than for new ones to be started. He said,

"What the last administration did was to budget N18billion for all the roads in the country, knowing the liability was in excess of N2trilion. For the three sectors, that is Works, Housing and Power, the total budget by the last administration was N24.5billion. So, this administration decided to move away from that and that is why we have a figure that may not be enough, but substantial for the sectors."

Lagos State government plans expansions of Ikeja-Alausa Road to tackle gridlock

The Lagos State Government on Mondayannounced plans to upgrade the network of roads in Ikeja to improve and boost the economic stature of the seat of Government to world class standard and to reduce traffic gridlock around the corridor to the barest minimum, just as it revealed readiness to expand the Awolowo Way with an elevated highway from the Ikeja Airport Hotel to Alausa.

Speaking at the ongoing Ministerial Press Briefing held at the Bagauda Kaltho Press Centre to commemorate Governor Akinwunmi Ambode’s one year in office, Commissioner for Works and Infrastructure, Engr. Ganiyu Johnson said the elevated highway was designed to decongest the traffic gridlock along Allen Round-about, Kudirat Abiola Round-about and Agidingbi Road-about.
Johnson, who equally disclosed that there would be an expansion of the Allen/Opebi Road to Odo Iya-Alaro via a link bridge at Ogudu to the Third Mainland Bridge, said the network of roads, when upgraded, would boost the economic activities in Ikeja, adding that the development was in line with the vision of Governor Ambode to transform Ikeja to a state capital in the real sense of it commensurate with other capital cities in the world.
Highlighting the scorecard of the Ministry so far, Johnson said the Lagos State Public Works Corporation (LSPWC) worked on 540 roads from May 30, 2015 to April 5, 2016 out of which outright rehabilitation was carried out on 32 of the roads, while sectional patching and overlay was done on 509 roads, adding that 433 of the roads have been successfully completed.
Some of the major roads rehabilitated by the LSPWC, according to the Commissioner, included but not limited to Alfa Nla Road in Agege, Metal Box Road in Ikeja, Ikotun-Ejigbo Road and the ongoing road projects in Ajasa Command and Aboru.
He said: “At the inception of this administration, this Ministry put in place a three-fold strategy for the provision of road infrastructure. The short term measure is the maintenance of existing roads known as “Operation Patch the Roads”, being carried out by the LSPWC, while the medium term strategy is aimed at the sustainability of existing roads, rehabilitation and construction of new roads, reconstruction of existing and expansion of highways and bridges.
“A total of 224 on-going road projects were inherited from the previous administration in the various Local Government Areas of the State and I wish to inform you that 42 of these projects have been completed while construction works are still on-going on others.”
He said government has already completed the alignments of the proposed 4th Mainland Bridge, and that talks have been held with a consortium of consultants in furtherance of the project, while a Memorandum of Understanding would be signed before the end of May.
He said the bridge, when completed, will traverse from Ajah to North West direction towards the Lagoon shoreline to Lagos-Ibadan expressway via Ikorodu, adding that approximate length of the bridge would be 37.9km with a designed speed of 140km/h.
He assured that all the on-going projects would be completed as scheduled which included pedestrian bridges, flyovers in Abule-Egba and Ajah, and many other projects.
Also speaking in a similar briefing, the State’s Commissioner for Housing, Prince Gbolahan Lawal said the State Government has introduced a policy known as rent-to-own designed to make housing more accessible and affordable particularly to low and medium income earners in both the formal and informal sectors.
He said under the arrangement, individuals would be required to pay just 5 per cent of the value of housing unit as commitment fee and payment is spread over 10 years at 6 per cent interest rate.
Lawal also disclosed that the State Government would soon embark on massive construction of 50 Housing Units in each of the 20 Local Government Areas and 37 Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs) in the State in a bid to tackle the housing deficit.
He said that government would also go into partnership with private sector to deliver affordable housing units, and also facilitate mortgage finance with the view to addressing the challenges in the housing value-chain.

Buhari appeals to Nigerians to be patient with him while he works on the changes needed to grow the economy

President Buhari through a statement by the Presidential spokesman, Mallam Garba Shehu appealed to Nigerians to be patient with him over the difficulties in the land, adding that the change he promised will be achieved soon.
As part of the change, the President ordered the release of 10,000 tons of grains from the national strategic grains reserves to help alleviate hard times people were suffering.
The statement go thus.....
The Presidency firmly rejects the insinuations that poverty and lack are products of the Change mantra. This should be dismissed as an erroneous and misplaced opposition criticism. The President understands the pain and the cries of the citizens of this country and he is spending sleepless nights over how he can make life better for everyone.
Contrary to assertions by a faction of the opposition Conference of Nigerian Political Parties, CNPP, the President’s energy and focus are on changing the lives of Nigerians, with a view to making it better than he met it.
“Change is a process. Change does not happen overnight. Change can be inconvenient. Change sometimes comes with pain. Over the past year, the government has been working night and day to deliver on its promise of change to Nigerians, and the painful process is still ongoing. “This is work in progress
. As life gradually returns to normal in much of the country and the northeast in particular, agriculture will resume and traders from neighbouring African countries will once again feel safe to do business with us. “It is estimated, for instance, that three Northeast states of Nigeria alone have so far lost about three trillion Naira (Nine billion US Dollars) to the Boko Haram insurgency.
The previous administration at the center said Federal Government losses amounted to about USD18 billion. “It would have been a miracle for our country’s economy not to feel the effects of this. And, in addition to the thousands of lives lost to the insurgency, thousands have also lost their means of livelihood.
The northeast region of Nigeria is a mostly agrarian society, which means Nigeria has lost billions of naira in agricultural produce. Many communities, which have had their yearly planting and harvesting cycle disrupted by Boko Haram attacks or occupation are still yet to return to their farms. In many of these communities, there have not been planting and consequent harvest for between two to five years.
“At the time this government came to power, about 600 billion naira was owed to fuel marketers in subsidy payments. Strategic fuel reserves were depleted and local refineries not functioning. “One of the President’s first steps was to pay off the marketers, leaving an outstanding of about N150 billion which is captured in the 2016 budget. The Port Harcourt and Kaduna refineries are being brought back to life. Shortly, Nigeria will resume refining its own fuel rather than depending on imports.
” As part of the permanent solution of recurring cycle of petroleum products shortages, government is working on a plan to ensure that some of the newly-licensed independent refineries start coming on stream from 2018.” “Government is also turning its attention to the sabotage of the oil and gas infrastructure that has taken so much away from the generation and distribution of electricity.”
“These are just some aspects of the change that Nigerians voted for, a change that is happening and which will soon be felt by Nigerians in every nook and cranny of our country. “Nigerians are a people renowned for our inner strength and our ability to triumph. These are just the darkest days before the dawn. The change Nigerians voted has indeed begun.”

Embattled Senate president Saraki Might Win CCT Case Against Him - Report

This is an independent report written by a Lagos lawyer. Read below...
At the ongoing cross-examination of the star witness in the trial of Senator Bukola Saraki, Mr. Michael Wetkas, an operative of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), has admitted, based on questions from Saraki’s counsel, that the EFCC did not investigate the accuracy of some of the exhibits presented as proof in the trial of the Senate President.

Saraki’s defense team, led by a former Attorney-General of the Federal, Mr. Kanu Agabi, have poked several holes in the Code of Conduct Tribunal (CCT) case against the Senate President in their thorough scrutiny of Mr. Wetkas’ testimony.

For example, Mr. Wetkas has acknowledged that neither he nor his team investigated Exhibits 11, 12 and 13 of the charges leveled against the Senate President. An online news portal, The Nation, owned by Mr Tinubu, the Southwest leader of APC that Saraki fingered as being behind his ordeal, reported that Mr. Wetkas said the petitions pertaining to the three exhibits were not investigated by him.

Exhibit 11, which was dated May 22nd, 2012, contained a petition written by the Kwara Freedom Network inviting the EFCC to investigate the Kwara State Universal Basic Education Board.

The witness, while giving evidence in chief, told the tribunal that the petition by the Kwara Freedom Network triggered the investigation.

“Exhibit 12 was dated on May 7, 2011 but was addressed to the Chairman of the EFCC asking the anti-graft agency to investigate the Kwara State Government on borrowings for projects described as phoney. Exhibit 13 was a petition dated June 7, 2012, which dwelt on the mismanagement of local government revenue in Kwara State between 2003 and 2011.”

It was also observed that the EFCC did not interrogate the Accountant General of Kwara State to clarify the allegations levelled against Senator Saraki. The EFFC witness said that interrogating the Accountant General was not part of his investigation, despite the fact that a careful investigation into the petition required such an enquiry.

The EFCC’s witness also stated that his team did not also get any verifiable document to back the petition written against Senator Saraki.

Also under cross-examination, the witness admitted that investigating the assets declared by the defendant did not form part of his schedule of duty. He also admitted that Exhibits 3, 4 and 5, being the asset declaration forms of the defendant, were duly examined and stamped by the Code of Conduct Bureau (CCB) and not the EFCC, his employer. He added that there was nowhere in the petition he investigated where Saraki’s assets declaration was in contention, bringing into question why the the Senate President has been dragged before the Code of Conduct Tribunal, a body that is solely meant to hold public servants accountable on their asset declarations.

As more and more holes are drilled into EFFC’s star witness’ account, if the law is followed, a mistrial might be declared, leaving the Senate President vindicated of the 13-count charge that he has been on trial for.
