Additional 170,000 PVCs arrive in Ogun

The Ogun State chapter of the Independent National Electoral Commission, has taken delivery of an additional 170,000 Permanent Voter Cards from its headquarters in Abuja.

The state Administrative Secretary of the commission, Mr. Dickson Atiba, said this on Tuesday while briefing journalists at the INEC office in Abeokuta.

He said the new consignment brought from Abuja to the state contained between  PVCs, noting that the remaining ones would arrive before Friday.

He said, “The PVC just arrived from Abuja. We have them in cartons; we have like 74 cartons.

“We have 15 cartons for Ifo Local government, 12 cartons for Ijebu-Ode Local government, 14 cartons for Ado-Odo/ Ota Local Government, 19 cartons for Sagamu Local Government,  four cartons for Odogbolu Local Government, one carton for Obafemi Owode Local government, one carton, Abeokuta South Local Government, one carton for  Abeokuta North, one carton for Ijebu East and then we have some pieces, which are in about five small cartons.

“We can not tell the exact number that are in a carton, unless we count them. But in rough estimation, all should be less than 200,000. It is above 150,000 and less than 200,000. It is between 170,000 and 190,000.”

Last week, the state Resident Electoral Commissioner, Chief Timothy Ibitoye, had told journalists that the state had a shortfall of 425,454 PVCs, which were still being expected from Abuja.

He put the number of registered voters in the state at 1,795,794.

Ibitoye said the PVCs  received from Abuja were 1,370,340 out of which 860,076 had been distributed.

But as of Monday, the total number of PVCs distributed had risen to 899,214, while the uncollected ones stood at 474,078, according to the commission.
