Clark’s wife escapes death as thugs attack campaign train

The Ogun Central senatorial candidate of Peoples Democratic Party, Dr. Bisola Sodipo-Clark, narrowly escaped death on Tuesday evening when suspected thugs attacked her campaign train in Abeokuta.

This came barely 72 hours after her husband, the Ijaw leader, Chief Edwin Clark, paid a visit to the PDP leaders in the state and inaugurated the President Goodluck Jonathan Political Centre in Ijebu Igbo.

She was said to be attending a meeting of Wards 10, 11 and 12 of the party in Totoro area of the town on the fateful evening when the thugs invaded the venue and launched an attack.

The candidate was said to have just left the venue about two minutes earlier when the thugs stormed the place and violently disrupted the venue, which saw many supporters running helter-skelter.

Some of her supporters sustained injuries as chairs and tables were destroyed in the attack.

Speaking with journalists, the senatorial candidate said she has reported the incident to the police and the directorate of state security services.

She, however, blamed the attack on the ruling party in the state which she claimed was using the thugs to intimidate her.

She said, “The attack will not cage me in any form.”

The Director General of her campaign team, Segun Sowunmi, also accused the supporters of the ruling party as being responsible for the attack.
