Dangote Lagos refinery estimated at $11bn

The proposed 650,000 barrels per day Dangote Refinery Complex and Fertiliser Plant, located in the Lekki Free Trade Zone, Lagos State, is to cost $11bn.

The Commissioner for Commerce and Industry, Mrs. Olusola Oworu, said this in Alausa, Ikeja on Thursday, adding that “massive construction” work was ongoing in the refinery.

She said, “As we speak, massive construction work is ongoing at the Dangote site. The project is envisaged to create 20,000 jobs during construction.”

Oworu added that about 8,000 engineers would be required during the construction.

She said the project would be completed by the end of 2016.

She explained that apart from Dangote, other high profile investors had indicated interest in the Lekki Free Trade Zone.

The commissioner said the state government had also provided 12 megawatts power plants to provide steady electricity supply in the LFTZ.

“Presently, a number of allocation request are also being processed by the ministry,” she said.

The commissioner added that 500 hectares of land had been allocated to an investor on Parcel B.

She said the ministry also took steps to foster good relationship between the host communities and the LFTZ, adding that payment of N785m was made to communities on Parcel A in 2009 and that 50 per cent compensation was also made to Yegunda and Abombti communities on Parcel B.

She assured the communities that the balance of 50 per cent, N541.5m, would be paid in the second quarter of 2015 by the Land Bureau.

Oworu said excision of over 390 hectares of land to 14 communities on Parcel A had been implemented, adding that Certificates of Occupancy had been handed over to communities who were allocated land on Parcel A.
