During summer, many people develop oily and sticky skin. They make this problem worse by washing their face several times with soap or harsh cleansers in an attempt to manage the oiliness. This makes the skin produce more oil to combat the dryness. Here, we look at a skincare routine, which, when followed regularly, can reduce the oiliness of your skin and leave your skin looking fresh.
Cleanse twice a day: A good cleanser should be used twice a day. The cleanser should be washed off with lukewarm or cold water. Avoid washing your face with hot water. The cleanser should be used no more than twice a day. If your skin feels sticky and grimy during the day, splash cold water on your face.
Remove your makeup at night: All traces of make-up should be removed at night before going to bed. Even traces of make-up left on the skin overnight can clog the pores, as the traces penetrate deeper into the skin at night and tend to cause pigmentation, or make the skin look dull and lackluster
Use a toner: A toner helps you feel fresh and tightens your pores, making your skin look better and younger. If you have an oily T-zone and dry cheeks, then use the toner only on your T-zone.
Exfoliate your skin: A gentle exfoliant should be used twice a week. This helps get rid of dead cells that get stuck to the skin and reduce its glow. After exfoliation, the skin should not feel irritated, dry or scratched. Exfoliating also helps to unclog the pores and minimise breakouts.
Steam twice a week: Steam your face for 5-10 minutes after exfoliating it. This will unclog your pores. Apply a small gentle moisturiser afterwards. Do this twice a week.
